About Me

Sarah Boyd (née Highland) is a freelance bassoonist, contrabassoonist, and professional reed maker located in Fort Worth, Texas. Sarah serves as principal bassoon of the Longview Symphony and Avant Chamber Ballet, contrabassoonist of the Texarkana Symphony and substitutes with the Fort Worth Symphony, Dallas Chamber Symphony, Dallas Winds, and Abilene Philharmonic.

In addition to performing, Sarah produces high-quality handcrafted bassoon and contrabassoon reeds. She also maintains a selective private bassoon studio in southern Dallas/Fort Worth with students ranging from beginner to college level. During the summer, she teaches the Premier Division of Bocal Majority Bassoon Camp.

Sarah Boyd is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy and received her Bachelor's degree from McGill University and her Master's degree from Baylor University, both in bassoon performance. Her principal teachers include Stéphane Lévesque and Eric Stomberg.

In her spare time, Sarah enjoys being outdoors, playing video games, and spending time with her husband, Steve, and their dogs, Koda and Murphy.

My dog, Koda, is my “helper” and inspiration for the website name.

My new dog, Murphy, joined the family in January 2019. She “helps” just as much as Koda.
